Google Business Profile: show up on the map when customers search

When someone searches for a service near them, Google often shows three businesses on a map near the top of the results. We optimise your Google Business Profile so that you have the best chance of being one of them, and so that people who see you call.

The map first

For local searches, the profile is your most important page.

Google weighs three things when someone searches for a service near them: relevance, distance and how well known the business is. You cannot change the distance. Relevance and how well known you appear can be worked on, and much of it sits in the profile.

Google says so itself: more reviews and positive ratings can help local ranking. And according to Google, there is no way to pay for a better local ranking.

The review

What we go through in the profile.

The basics

Name and category

The name should be your real name, without keywords or place names. In our experience, the right primary category is one of the most important settings.

Location

Address and area

If you show your address, Google’s guidelines say there should be permanent signage with your business name there. If you work at the customer’s premises, we set a service area instead.

Relevance

Services and description

Every service you sell, in the words customers use, and a description that answers why you.

Trust

Photos

Real photos of jobs, premises and staff. In our experience, profiles with real photos get more clicks and calls.

Reviews

Reviews and replies

Collection that runs after every job, and replies to all reviews, even the bad ones.

Activity

Posts and questions

Offers and news as posts, and details in the profile that answer what customers usually ask.

The reviews

Fresh reviews carry the most weight with people choosing.

Three out of four consumers look for reviews from the last three months (BrightLocal 2026, US consumers). Fifty 5-star reviews from 2021 do little for someone choosing tonight.

Tokig Reviews

Our own tool: you enter the customer’s email address after the job, and the customer gets a question with a link straight to your Google profile. Every customer gets the same question, because Google prohibits asking only the happy ones. Anyone who has not opened the link gets a reminder, and you are told when a new review comes in so you can reply straight away.

A reply to every review

In our experience, a low rating with a calm, factual reply does less harm than an unanswered one. We write suggested replies that you approve.

The right category, a complete profile, real photos, fresh reviews and a website that confirms the same details. The distance to the person searching also matters, and that cannot be changed.

Yes, and Google encourages it. What Google prohibits is offering something in return, asking only the happy customers and telling the customer what to write.

Yes. If you work at your customers’ premises, you set a service area instead of a visible address.

The profile is free from Google. You get a fixed price for the review and the ongoing management after the meeting.
